Drawing
The aims of the training are to enable the apprentice to- use working drawings and tables in Wooden boatbuilding
- make full-scale designs of different parts of the boat
- make models based on drawings and designs
- make freehand drawings and simple models for preparing production
- select forms and surface treatments and substantiate your choices based on use and aesthetics
- give an account of local distinctive features of wooden boats and put these in a national and international perspective
Production
The aims of the training are to enable the apprentice to- handle and store wood materials for the coming production
- sort wood by quality and the wood's use, including other materials
- use tools and techniques adapted to different materials, ergonomics and time to be used
- use mechanical and chemical joining methods adapted to the actual use of the boat
- use different sealants and methods for sealing
- make boat riggings for different uses
- perform woodwork in conjunction with the technical installations
- do maintenance on tools, machines and equipment
- do surface treatments adapted to materials, areas of application and the environment
- calculate the costs for your own production
- carry out and document work in accordance with current regulations for environment, health and safety and routines for internal control.
- give an account of and comply with current regulations for wooden boatbuilding
Maintenance
The aims of the training are to enable the apprentice to- evaluate the condition of wooden boats and prepare a maintenance programme for these
- evaluate and state the need for repairs and restoration, and describe what work is involved
- perform different kinds of repairs to wooden boats
- do maintenance work adapted to materials and the type and use of the boat
- estimate the costs for maintenance, repairs and restoration
