In Art and Crafts, the interdisciplinary topic public health and life skills focus on pupils developing the ability for creative thinking and practical problem‑solving. Pupils acquire practical skills and the ability to ask questions, face everyday challenges, and see opportunities in unfamiliar situations. Pupils gain tools to explore opinions, ideas, and emotions and to express themselves through various formats and arenas. Working with visual and material culture strengthens pupils’ self‑image and identity development, promotes understanding of diversity and creates meaning in life.

In Art and Crafts, the interdisciplinary topic democracy and citizenship refer to pupils acquiring competence to critically reflect on art, design and material and intangible culture, and to express their own experiences, thoughts, and opinions. Through encounters with art and culture and work with visual expressions, pupils can develop the ability to interpret, participate in, and influence the society they live in.

In Art and Crafts, the interdisciplinary topic sustainability is addressed through practical creative work, enabling pupils to identify product improvements and explore more sustainable ways of living. Critical examination of consumer culture and experience with the use and reuse of materials can provide a basis for making ethical choices. Through work with technology, materials and product development, pupils can increase their awareness of how nature affects people, and how human lifestyles impact nature and the climate.
