Explanation
Competence aims after Year 10
The pupil is expected to be able to
- explore possibilities within craft techniques and appropriate technologies by processing and joining hard, plastic, and soft materials
- assess material durability and possibilities for repair and reuse, and use different tools and materials in an appropriate and environmentally conscious manner
- develop solutions through a step‑by‑step design process and assess durability, function and aesthetic expression
- explore how digital tools and new technologies create opportunities for communication and experiences in creative processes and products
- visualise form using freehand drawings, technical drawings, models and digital tools
- analyse how identity and local culture are communicated in architecture, clothing traditions, art, or objects, and integrate cultural references in own creative work
- examine how art, including Sámi art, can contribute to social critique, and create artistic expressions that address challenges in contemporary society
- reflect critically on elements and principles of design, and experiment with different visual expressions in a creative process
- create sketches for the renewal of local environments and model architectural solutions that address diverse needs and interests
- pecialise in a visual form of expression and/or a craft technique, explore possibilities through practical creative work and present choices from idea to finished result
Formative assessment
Formative assessment shall help to promote learning and develop competence in the subject. Pupils demonstrate and develop competence in Art and Crafts in Years 8–10 by using a range of creative strategies and practical problem‑solving approaches as they work with visualisations, materials, and digital tools. They also demonstrate and develop competence when they reflect on environmentally conscious consumption, elements and principles of design, cultural references, and craft quality.
The teacher shall facilitate for pupil participation and stimulate the desire to learn through varied practical workshop tasks and by encouraging pupils to address contemporary challenges through creative processes. The teacher shall have conversations with the pupils regarding their development in art and crafts. Pupils shall have opportunities to try things out. Based on the competence pupils demonstrate, they shall be given opportunities to articulate what they feel they are able to do and to reflect on their own subject related development in terms of both process and product. The teacher shall provide guidance on further learning and adapt instruction so that pupils can develop their competence in practical problem solving, creative processes, visual communication, and reflection on visual and material culture.
Assessment of coursework
The grade awarded for coursework shall reflect the overall competence of the pupil in Art and crafts after completing Year 10. The teacher shall plan and facilitate opportunities for pupils to demonstrate competence in varied ways that include understanding, reflection, and critical thinking across contexts. The teacher shall award the final grade based on the pupil’s craft skills across materials, use of creative strategies and ability to visualise ideas. The grade shall also be based on how the pupil reflects on aesthetic expressions, cultural references, function, and durability in their own and others’ work.
