Craft skills
Craft skills entails that pupils shall develop manual dexterity, practical skills and perseverance through the use of a variety of tools and materials. Pupils shall develop understanding of material properties, functionality and expression through their own creative work. They shall work with hard, plastic and soft materials and digital tools in an ethical, environmentally aware and safe manner throughout their schooling.
Art and design processes
Art and design processes entails that pupils shall develop curiosity, creativity, courage, the enjoyment of making, perseverance and problem‑solving abilities. The core element emphasises both open and exploratory processes, and step‑by‑step processes with development and innovation as objectives.
Visual communication
Visual communication entails that pupils shall be able to read, understand and use visual language. The development of drawing skills is fundamental for communicating ideas, experiences, messages and relationships. Pupils shall use visual elements consciously and experimentally in two‑dimensional, three‑dimensional and digital expressions.
Cultural understanding
Cultural understanding entails that pupils explore contemporary visual culture and cultural heritage from various parts of the world as sources of experience and as inspiration for their own creative practice. Pupils shall encounter examples of, and reflect on, how art, crafts and design both mirror and shape culture, societal development and identity. Knowledge of visual and material culture provides a basis for making informed choices as consumers, citizens and creators.
