Basic skills

Oral skills
Oral skills in Art and Crafts involve being able to put aesthetic experiences and creative processes into words and reflect on them. This includes using subject‑specific terminology in dialogue, discussions, and oral presentations. The development of oral skills progresses from talking about observations and experiences to describing elements and principles of design, craft practices and references from art and cultural history.
Writing
Writing in Art and Crafts means communicating visually through signs and symbols. It also involves writing texts to clarify ideas, choices, and opinions during practical work. Furthermore, it includes combining text and images in layouts and other visual expressions. The development of writing skills progresses from combining text, signs, and symbols to improving readability, adapting text to purpose, and creating creative combinations of visual expressions.
Reading
Reading in Art and Crafts means interpreting, understanding, and evaluating visual and material environments. Reading technical drawings and instructions is central to practical problem‑solving and to assessing form, functionality, and durability. The development of reading skills progresses from recognising and decoding to critically reflecting on elements and principles of design, as well as cultural references.
Numeracy
Numeracy in Art and Crafts means using mathematical approaches in practical creative work. This includes taking accurate measurements, calculating scale, volume and proportions, and exploring the construction of patterns, form, and space. The development of numeracy skills progresses from following given procedures to using mathematical methods as tools for independent problem‑solving.
Digital skills
Digital skills in Art and Crafts involve using digital tools and media for inspiration, experimentation, documentation, and presentation. This also includes using digital tools and programming in creative processes. Knowledge of copyright and privacy regulations when using one’s own or others’ images, films and creative work is essential at all stages. The development of digital skills progresses from using simple digital tools and media to creating digital products that generate experiences and communicate emotions, ideas and opinions.
